Enugu Rangers’ head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary round match against US Zilimadjou of Comoros.

The first leg is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, on Sunday, August 18, with the second leg scheduled at the same venue on August 23.

Ilechukwu emphasized that Enugu Rangers are nearing the performance level required to make a significant impact in the CAF Champions League. He pointed out that hosting both legs of the preliminary round in Nigeria is advantageous, as it reduces stress on the team.

“I must say that the team is gradually getting to the level required to challenge positively in the CAF Champions League,” the Rangers coach stated. “Playing both legs of the preliminary round in Nigeria is an advantage to us because it will reduce any form of stress in the team. In as much as Uyo is not our home, for us, anywhere is home, which is what we have built into the squad. We can play anywhere and get the positive result we want.”

Meanwhile, Remo Stars are also preparing for their CAF Champions League preliminary round match against Moroccan club AS FAR. The first leg will be held at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Remo Stars’ media director, Oladimeji Oshode, expressed confidence that the team has learned from their previous encounter with AS FAR and assured fans that history would not repeat itself.

“We have learned our lessons from our last encounter with the same club,” Oshode said. “I can assure our fans that thunder will not strike twice.”
