Officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken control of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), sparking outrage from the organization. SERAP described the DSS action as an “unlawful occupation,” according to a statement released on its official X handle on Monday.

The DSS officers reportedly demanded to meet with SERAP’s directors, though the reasons for the takeover remain unclear. SERAP has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene immediately, urging him to direct the DSS to stop what it described as harassment and intimidation.

“President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians,” the statement read.

The incident follows closely on the heels of SERAP’s call for President Tinubu to instruct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to reverse the recent increase in the pump price of petrol, which the group described as illegal and unconstitutional.
