Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, was released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after his arrest at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday night. The social media figure and cross-dresser was detained while attempting to board a flight to Amsterdam and later taken to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning.
Bobrisky’s arrest drew significant attention when he posted online about sustaining injuries during the incident, stating, “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
The EFCC reportedly questioned him regarding allegations that he bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to drop prior money laundering charges. This claim originated from a voice note shared by critic Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan. Bobrisky, however, denied all bribery allegations, challenging the legitimacy of the voice note and insisting that the accuser should provide concrete evidence.
An EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobrisky’s release but refrained from sharing further details. A source indicated that during the interrogation, Bobrisky firmly denied offering any bribe, stating that no EFCC official had requested or received money from him.
