The future of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to be a major topic of debate during the party’s upcoming caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings on September 11 and 12. The issue has sparked significant internal discussions, as revealed by the APC’s National Secretary, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola.

Tensions have risen between party members, with Chief Oliver Okpala, a Senior Special Assistant to Ganduje, and Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga exchanging heated remarks over Ganduje’s continued leadership. Okpala defended Ganduje against Zazzaga’s criticisms, particularly regarding Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule’s support for Ganduje. Sule had recently called for unified backing of Ganduje to secure victories in the upcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

However, Zazzaga, representing the North Central Forum of the APC, accused Sule of betraying his state and the North Central region by supporting Ganduje. He argued that the role of national chairman should belong to the North Central zone according to the party’s power-sharing arrangement.

Prominent figures expected to attend the crucial meetings include President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Sen Kashim Shettima, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and his former Deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, among other key party leaders. The NEC meeting is scheduled to take place on September 12 at the Nicon Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
