Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared the Park and Pay scheme in Abuja illegal. The announcement was made during a live media briefing marking Wike’s one-year anniversary in office.

Wike revealed that he was previously unaware of the scheme until a Senior Advocate of Nigeria brought it to his attention. He described the scheme as a fraudulent operation that has been siphoning government funds, with private consultants reportedly taking 80% of the revenue while the FCT administration received only 20%.

The Minister expressed his commitment to dismantling the operation immediately, citing the lack of transparency and legal foundation as key issues. He emphasized that such schemes undermine the integrity of the system and called for vigilance to prevent similar abuses.

Wike’s declaration comes as a significant move to address concerns about corruption and mismanagement in the FCT administration.
