The Federal Government has declared a three-month state of emergency at Onne Port in Rivers State due to recurring incidents of illegal importation of arms and dangerous cargo. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the emergency protocols during a press briefing, citing national security concerns and increased threats to public health.

Adeniyi highlighted the seizure of 12 containers of illicit goods, including military-grade items, pharmaceuticals like tramadol, and codeine-laced cough syrup, with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) exceeding N31 billion. The Customs boss emphasized the need for thorough container inspections and called for public cooperation to combat smuggling and illegal imports.
