Lawyers Alert, a prominent Nigerian human rights organization, has taken legal action against the Federal Government and the Attorney-General of the Federation at the Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State. The lawsuit addresses the ongoing humanitarian crisis affecting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region, with the goal of securing better protection and facilitating the return of displaced citizens to their homes.
The lawsuit argues that the government has failed to uphold its constitutional obligations to safeguard the lives and dignity of vulnerable groups in the camps, many of whom face poor living conditions and increased security risks.
