The anticipated October 1 protest in Kano, organized by the Nigerian Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM), did not take place following the reported arrest of five NPFM officials. The protest was meant to address the current hardships faced by Nigerians, but the arrest prevented the demonstration from going forward.
As a result, many residents opted to stay indoors, and several businesses, including markets and shops, remained closed. Armed security personnel were seen deployed across key locations in the city to maintain order. Some residents cited concerns over potential violence, recalling how the EndBadGovernance protest had previously been marred by looting and destruction of property.
Fewer vehicles were observed on Kano’s streets, and the atmosphere remained quiet, with no signs of protest activity.
