The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, has screened and confirmed Lawrence Oko-Jaja, SAN, as the Chairman of the Board for the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement (RSBoPP).

The confirmation took place during a plenary session held at the Hallowed Chamber of the Assembly, situated within the Administrative Block of the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.

In addition to Oko-Jaja, the Assembly also confirmed seven other nominees as board members, including Dr. Ernest Ibekwe Ekwe, Dr. Mina Ogbanga, Iseleye Amachree, Adokiye Oyagiri, Gift Alex-Hart, Mrs. Grace Osaronu, and Selinah Amoniea.

The screening and confirmation followed a letter from Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which was read by Speaker Oko-Jumbo during the session. The letter requested the Assembly to screen and confirm the nominees for the RSBoPP board, citing the provisions of Section 1, Sub-Section 4 of the Rivers State Public Procurement Law No. 4 of 2008.

During the screening, the nominees pledged to use their expertise to advance the state’s policy implementation efforts. Oko-Jaja assured that, if confirmed, the board would ensure value for money in all state government contracts.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo advised the nominees to remain loyal to the state government and to uphold best practices, quality performance, and accountability in all procurement activities managed by the Bureau.

The nominees were confirmed by a voice vote, with lawmakers affirming their suitability for the roles.

The House adjourned the session to September 4, 2024.
