On September 5, 2024, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) arrested seven individuals during a fuel hike protest in Ilorin, Kwara State. The arrests followed reports of theft and violent behavior associated with the protest.
According to NSCDC spokesman Ayoola Michael, the suspects were apprehended after an attack on Olusegun Taiwo, who reported having her bag, phones, and other valuables stolen by a group of youths on motorcycles. The protest, organized by commercial vehicle operators, was reportedly hijacked by these individuals, leading to widespread theft and unrest.
The NSCDC’s investigation revealed that the suspects were linked to a group responsible for causing disturbances in the Sango area of Ilorin. The situation exacerbated tensions in the city, with the protest being marred by criminal activities.
