Candidates from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo, are in a close contest as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to upload results from the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.
As of the latest update, INEC had uploaded 97% of the election results onto its Results Viewing (IReV) portal. Despite a delayed start caused by early morning rains, voter turnout across the state remained high. Preliminary results suggest a regional divide, with Okpebholo leading in the Edo North Senatorial District, while Ighodalo maintains a lead in Edo South.
The election has seen widespread reports of vote-buying, with security agencies making arrests. Both major parties have traded allegations of electoral misconduct. INEC is yet to complete the collation of final results.
