A 23-year-old philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayomide Adeleye, has confessed to the shocking murder of 18-year-old Christiana Idowu, a fellow church member, amid personal financial woes.
Currently in police custody at the Lagos State Police Command, Adeleye revealed that he lured Idowu to his home under the guise of repairing her phone. During the visit, he described the brutal moment he attacked her, stating, “I just grabbed her, applied pressure… I then squeezed her throat, and she gave up.”
After the murder, Adeleye buried Idowu’s body in a shallow grave in his backyard and later attempted to extort money from her mother. He contacted her with a demand for ransom, manipulating her grief to extract a total of N360,000.
Adeleye’s arrest followed the tracing of his SportyBet account, where he had inadvertently linked his National Identification Number. Expressing deep remorse, he stated, “I regret that I killed her because my mum and her mum were friends,” and acknowledged that he deserves no mercy for his actions.
