Spanish manager Mikel Arteta has secured a new three-year contract with Arsenal, settling any doubts about his future with the Premier League club. The 42-year-old, who has managed Arsenal since 2019, guided the team to consecutive second-place league finishes and was nearing the end of his previous deal.
In August, Arteta requested patience on his contract renewal, noting that his attention was on the transfer window. The contract extension comes just days before Arsenal’s crucial Premier League match against London rivals Tottenham.
Arteta, a former Arsenal player, took over from Unai Emery after a stint as an assistant coach at Manchester City. During his tenure, he has helped reestablish Arsenal as Premier League title contenders, including winning the FA Cup in his first season.
Arsenal have finished runners-up to Manchester City for two consecutive seasons and are currently fourth in the Premier League with two wins and one draw. They will begin their Champions League campaign next week against Atalanta.
