The price of maize has seen a significant reduction at the Saminaka grain market in Kaduna State. Previously, a 100kg bag of maize was priced between N85,000 and N90,000, but it has now fallen to between N50,000 and N55,000.

Farmer Harisu Abdullahi Maresu reported selling 20 bags of new maize at N50,000 each to purchase fertilizer and cover other expenses. Meanwhile, Malam Jafaru Iliyasu Mariri sold his old stock for N75,000 per bag.

Traders from Kano and Bauchi states, including Sabi’u Abdu Idris and Musa Abdullahi, welcomed the price drop and the availability of new maize. They noted that they previously purchased old stock at N85,000 per 100kg bag, but can now acquire the new maize for N50,000 to N60,000 per bag.

Sabi’u Abdu Idris mentioned that last week he bought 70 bags, but today he purchased 100 bags due to the improved availability and reduced prices. Malam Maiwada Dauda Dagi, another grain dealer, noted that the price of new maize varies from N40,000 to N55,000 depending on its dryness.
