The Out-of-Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN) has denied a publication by certain media outlets that linked the association with a statement from the Heads of Advertising Sectoral Group (HASG) opposing the proposed Chartered Body for Out-of-Home Media Bill.

According to OAAN, the statement incorrectly claimed that the group opposes the bill currently under consideration in the National Assembly, which seeks to establish a chartered body for the Out-of-Home Media practice in Nigeria.

In a disclaimer issued on Friday and signed by its president, Mr. Sola Akinsiku, OAAN clarified that its leadership was not consulted before the HASG issued the statement.

The Association emphasized its support for the bill, which has passed its second reading in the National Assembly. OAAN believes that the bill will enhance the profession, bringing greater professionalism and order to the Out-of-Home Media ecosystem.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our Association has unequivocally and unambiguously expressed our support for the bill as proposed by the most distinguished Senator Abaribe Eyinnaya because we are convinced that the anticipated charter will promote sanity, excellence, and professionalism in the Out-of-Home media ecosystem,” Akinsiku stated.

OAAN also argued that the charter would protect Out-of-Home Media assets in the country and prevent environmental cluttering.

“We strongly believe that it is in the best interest of our practice and business, as well as the industry, to have the proposed chartered status. Therefore, we do not subscribe to the statement by the HASG purporting to oppose the bill,” Akinsiku reiterated.
