Veteran actor Patrick Doyle has expressed his disapproval of gifting Rolls Royce cars to religious leaders during a period when many Nigerians are struggling to meet basic needs. His comments follow the recent gifting of two Rolls Royce Cullinan vehicles to Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church, in celebration of his 70th birthday.

Doyle, sharing his views on social media, argued that the funds used for such extravagant gifts could be better directed toward public projects that benefit society. He warned that the display of wealth amidst widespread hardship could fuel unrest.

He remarked, “At a time when so many Nigerians are suffering, it is crucial to be sensitive about how we celebrate. A gesture that could truly honor someone in such times would be building community resources, not showcasing affluence with luxury vehicles.”

Doyle suggested that instead of lavish gifts, congregations could honor their leaders through initiatives like scholarships or vocational training centers. He also expressed concern that public perceptions of excessive wealth within the church might alienate leaders from the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
