The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured all 18 chairmanship positions in Cross River State’s local government elections, held on November 2. The results were officially announced on Sunday by Dr. Ekong Boco, Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), at the commission’s Calabar headquarters.
The APC swept key councils, including Abi, Odukpani, Bakassi, and Calabar South, and Certificates of Return were promptly awarded to the newly elected officials. Governor Bassey Otu praised the peaceful election process and commended the electorate for their orderly conduct.
Governor Otu expressed confidence that the new local leaders would support the state’s vision for progress and focus on providing effective governance. “We believe the new leadership at the local government level will align with our agenda and be dedicated to delivering quality governance to the people,” he stated.
Though opposition parties like the PDP and Labour Party participated, they did not field candidates in all wards, leaving several APC candidates unchallenged.
