The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has launched an investigation into allegations of sodomy involving two of its youth pastors. Pastor Sunday Akande, RCCG’s National Overseer, confirmed to Sunday Punch that the church is addressing the matter with utmost seriousness, marking an unprecedented incident in its history.

Pastor Akande explained that the accused pastors were suspended to allow any potential victims to come forward. However, as of now, no one has stepped forward with accusations of harassment. He emphasized the church’s commitment to upholding its moral standards and assured that necessary actions would be taken based on the panel’s findings.

The accusations surfaced last week when a blog alleged that the youth pastors had been influencing teenage boys into homosexual acts. The blog claimed that one pastor, alongside a close friend, engaged in inappropriate conduct under the guise of mentorship, even holding fake Bible study meetings to facilitate such encounters.

In response, one of the accused pastors issued a statement denying the allegations. He clarified that discussions in a male teens’ WhatsApp group were focused on topics like reproductive health and self-esteem, not inappropriate activities. He emphasized that he never solicited or engaged in any form of misconduct.

As the investigation continues, RCCG remains firm in its position against any behavior that violates its ethical principles, stating that the church will address any verified incidents in line with its commitment to integrity.
