Elder Joseph Ambakederimo, the convener of the South-South Reawakening Group, has urged an immediate resolution to the ongoing political standoff in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike. Ambakederimo expressed concern over the prolonged tension, warning of potential negative impacts on governance and project continuity within the state if left unresolved.
In an interview with Vanguard, Ambakederimo emphasized that the crisis has dragged on for too long, risking broader political fallout. He stressed that only Wike and Fubara have the power to end the disagreement, saying, “Now is the best time for the two dramatis personae to resolve what is left of the crisis.”
He also commented on a court judgment affecting the release of federal allocations to Rivers Local Government, noting that while the trial court’s decision is currently binding, the state government can pursue an appeal if it chooses. Ambakederimo advised letting legal processes unfold without external interference.
