The body of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut, has been recovered, according to a source close to the militant group. The airstrike, which occurred on Friday, also resulted in the death of Ali Karake, a top commander in southern Lebanon, as confirmed by Hezbollah on Sunday.
A medical source stated that Nasrallah’s body was found intact at the site of the attack in Beirut’s southern suburbs. The body of Nabil Kaouk, another senior Hezbollah figure killed in the strikes, was also recovered and prepared for burial, although no funeral arrangements have been made yet.
Before his death, Nasrallah was seen as a significant figure in Lebanese politics and had led the Iran-backed group for over three decades. His leadership made Hezbollah a formidable adversary to Israel. The Israeli military confirmed that in addition to Nasrallah and Karake, more than 20 other Hezbollah members were killed in the strikes.
Following the attacks, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated, “The IDF continues to attack and eliminate the commanders of the Hezbollah terrorist organization and to act against anyone who threatens the citizens of the State of Israel.” The military also noted that they targeted approximately 120 Hezbollah sites across southern Lebanon and deeper into Lebanese territory during their recent operations.
The ongoing conflict has heightened tensions in the region, with frequent exchanges of strikes reported between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, exacerbating an already volatile situation.
