The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested thirteen (13) suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as ‘Yahoo boys,’ in Sokoto State. The arrests were made by the Sokoto Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on Saturday, September 28, 2024, following credible intelligence regarding the suspects’ involvement in internet-related crimes.

According to an official statement from the EFCC, the arrests took place in the Gidan Yaro and Dandima areas of Sokoto. The suspects, all of whom claimed to be students at Usman Danfodio University, are currently under investigation and will be charged in court once investigations are completed.

In a related development, the EFCC recently detained Darius Ishaku, the former governor of Taraba State, over an alleged ₦27 billion fraud. Ishaku, who completed his tenure in 2023, was arrested at his Abuja residence last Friday.

Sources within the anti-graft agency revealed that Ishaku faces at least 15 charges and is expected to appear in court soon. The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest but declined to comment further on the case.
